Featured Volunteer – Louis Spencer
A faithful Habitat volunteer for the last nine years, Louis Spencer is a familiar face in the ReStore on Friday mornings. After first volunteering with the construction department and being, as he says with a chuckle, “not very good at it”, Louis decided to give the ReStore a try.
Now retired, Louis spent many years working for an oil company in Saudi Arabia as a 5th and 6th grade teacher for their school. After he moved to Chattanooga Louis wanted to meet others in the community and thought volunteering with Habitat might be a great way to do so! Indeed, Louis knows many ReStore customers by name and says that interacting with customers and staff and getting to know people he might not otherwise have met is one of his favorite parts about volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
Louis enjoys being able to support his local community through his service with Habitat and appreciates the constructive and positive philosophy that he finds there. Not a stranger to giving back, Louis also spends time volunteering with the Tennessee Aquarium, traveling to Nepal to spend time in an orphanage, and donating his time to maintaining local trails through WILD Trails. We are so thankful for the hard work Louis puts in here and at other organizations around Chattanooga and can definitely say that Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area is a better place with him here.
