Simple, Decent, Green and Attractive

Habitat for Humanity home buyers are concerned with what it costs them to operate their home and how to maintain it. Through our energy efficient building, continuing education program, their Homeowner’s Manual and our close relationship with them, we are able to ease their adjustment in becoming first time home owners.

Sustainable building takes on a new meaning as they begin to enjoy the benefits of homeownership without the concern of making ends meet because of high utility bills. That’s sustainable building at its best!

At Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area (HFHGCA), we seek to balance building our homes to the highest energy standards possible while keeping costs to a minimum. Our homebuyers reap the benefits each month with utility bills 33% less than they are used to.

While our homes are built by volunteers, all are built to code and inspected repeatedly during the course of construction by local government inspectors. Electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems are installed by licensed contractors.

Habitat uses a suite of designs created by local architects that are designed to make our homes compatible with the design styles typical of Chattanooga neighborhoods. While the floor plans remain the same, we vary the fronts of the homes so that each is different. This helps avoid a cookie cutter appearance. Our homes are simple, decent, affordable and green, and attractive.
