Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area has been awarded $67,000 from Thrivent Financial to support construction of a Habitat home for an area family, as part of the Thrivent Builds program. This is the 8th home in Chattanooga to be built thanks to Thrivent’s support.

Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity is an ongoing multi-year, multi-million dollar partnership between Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial, which helps create safe, decent, affordable housing across the globe.

“Janice Meissner, Financial Associate, and I are looking forward to our 8th Thrivent Builds project with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area,” said Mark Gluckner, Financial Consultant at Thrivent Financial.   “Our Chapter volunteers and Thrivent Financial representatives have a strong relationship with this great affiliate.  The Thrivent Builds Homes program gives us an opportunity to work together in the community to build a new home for a wonderful family and live out our mission of helping members be wise with money and live generously.”

Since the national partnership’s inception in 2005, Thrivent Financial and its members have now committed $213 million and 4.4 million volunteer hours around the world.

“We are extremely grateful to Thrivent Financial and its members for their continued support of Habitat for Humanity,” said David Butler, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area. “Because of this generosity, another family in the Greater Chattanooga area will have a safe, affordable place to call home.”

Thrivent Financial remains the largest non-governmental supporter of Habitat for Humanity International. For more information about Thrivent Builds programs, visit To learn about local volunteer opportunities, visit

We are excited to announce the launch of our first ever crowd funding campaign in support of Women Build in Chattanooga! During the next 30 days, we are seeking to raise $5,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area’s work of empowering women and families through homeownership.

We need your help to share this effort with as many women in Chattanooga as we can – here’s how to get started:

Just point your browser to our share.habitat page at and check out our campaign page.  This page will make it easy for you to support the campaign as an individual, but will also allow you to easily reach out to friends, family, business associates or others to invite them to join you in supporting Women Build.

There are four easy ways to get involved:

Become a supporter of the campaign (share the campaign with your social media followers)

Make a donation to the campaign.

Share the campaign with your friends via Facebook, Twitter, Google + or email.

With your help, we can meet our financial goal, but more important, we can spread the word about what Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area is doing to empower women.  We hope you will join with us to make the Women Build Campaign as success!

Lowe’s Partners with ReStore on Annual Spring Clean Donation Drive

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

[Note: The Spring Clean donation drive promoted below ended April 30, 2014]

Spring time is here and to most that means it is time to begin spring cleaning. As area residents brewstoreegin to move, remodel and declutter their homes, garages, and apartments, officials from Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area are encouraging them to donate unwanted, gently used furniture, cabinetry, appliances, household items, tools, and building materials to the affiliate’s annual Spring Clean Donation Drive.

Habitat’s Spring Clean Donation Drive will be held each Saturday between 10 a.m.–2 p.m. during April at the Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores in the Hixson on Highway 153 and in Chattanooga on Gunbarrel Road. Habitat’s ReStore staff and volunteers will be stationed near the ReStore truck, which will be parked in the rear of the parking lots.

Items accepted in this year’s Spring Donation Drive include:

  • Working Appliances
  • Cabinets
  • Furniture
  • Household Items
  • Tools
  • Garden Supplies
  • Outdoor Furniture
  • Flooring/New Carpet
  • Full Containers of Paint
  • Roofing
  • Lighting/Ceiling Fans/Lamps
  • Fences
  • Hardware
  • Tile
  • Doors
  • Windows
All items are tax deductible and should be clean and in good, working condition. And for those items that are too large and heavy to transport, schedule an appointment for Habitat’s ReStore Team to pick them up at no charge.
“We are tremendously grateful for Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores and the Chattanooga community for their continued support,” said Marty Mauldin, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga’s ReStore Operations manager. “All revenue generated from sales at our discounted home improvement store enables us to build more homes for working families in the Greater Chattanooga community.  I encourage residents to not only donate items to the spring donation drive but also consider shopping at Chattanooga’s best kept secret, Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore.”
